“We stole space from our garage” stated Anna Chapman when telling Ideal Home Magazine how they managed to get a big family kitchen using what they had instead of extending”

When it comes to reworking space one of the most important decisions to start with is whether to extend or not to extend, and that’s exactly the question Anna and Glyne Chapman faced when they decided they needed a bigger kitchen with better storage, more food prep areas and a place for her daughters to sit and draw while the couple cooked.

They started by speaking to a builder a neighbour had recommended, and he suggested to knock the kitchen and utility room together instead of extending and taking space from the garage, which they would never have thought of.

They found it hard to visualize the new space, so, they employed an architect , who charged £450 to design the layout changes. Afterwards they have approached a local kitchen company to design the layout of the units, which charged £2050 for planning and installation, while the builder did all the building work, electrics, plumbing, underfloor heating and decorating for £9500.

Warmup products were choosen to install the underfloor heating system in this exciting project the Chapmans’ had gone through with satisfying results.

Climate change and the dwindling supply of fossil fuels has become a pressing issue for anyone that is conscious of our environment. New Zealand has a great international image of being a clean and environmentally friendly country and has the objective of becoming carbon neutral in electrical energy by 2025. It is now a prerequisite for New Zealand builders and architects to create property that has better insulation and is more energy efficient, this need for energy efficiency has increased the demand for economical and efficient methods of heating a property.

One of the best and least intrusive methods of heating a property is by using underfloor heating. New Zealand’s leading supplier of radiant underfloor heating, Warmup (www.warmup.co.nz) are at the forefront of producing environmentally friendly heating methods, as highlighted by the recent introduction of their Future Proof Building Partnership along with Warmup’s pending BRANZ Appraisal.

Warmup’s underfloor heating systems reflect the heat upwards and are designed to heat the property not the earth, also allowing individual ‘zoning’ whereby room temperature can be individually adjusted to suit individuals needs, allowing one to focus the energy exactly where it is needed.

Warmup’s radiant heat technology has recently been featured on CNN’s top rated show ‘Open House’ where they discussed the virtues of radiant heat and the fact that its global popularity is booming due to the energy efficiency and ability to incorporate the systems without detrimentally effecting the aesthetics of a property.

Pam Anderson recently made the news for splashing out on gold and platinum tiles in her bank-breaking £3m Malibu home renovation. This whim of hers has allegedly plunged her into debt, which she is attempting to brush off with her womanly wiles.

Creating a glamorous home need not be so dramatic though. The tile market has developed significantly in the last few years and it is now possible to access stunning yet affordable tiles. According to The Tile Association, the platinum look, for example, can be easily created by using shiny, metallic mosaics or with platinum effect tiles at a fraction of the price.

Apart from choosing similar-looking tiles, another clever way to add luxury is the addition of underfloor heating. After all, the only thing better than a gorgeous floor is a warm, gorgeous floor. Particularly here in the UK where winters are a lengthy half-year affair, underfloor heating will enable you to enjoy those beautiful tiles for longer.

Award-winning Warmup® electric underfloor heating is available in both loose cable and mat forms to suit different projects. A large or regular-shaped area can be quickly covered with a mat while a smaller room with units could benefit from the additional flexibility offered by the loose wire. Room size is not a problem as Warmup offers a full range of safety-approved systems to cover areas from 0.5m² upwards.

Warmup® underfloor heating boasts a host of advantages from more comfortable warmth to greater interior design freedom.

Spanning the entire floor means that underfloor heating is very effective for keeping floors dry, especially ideal for busy bathrooms. The radiant method of heating also eliminates draughts typically associated with conventional radiators. This in turn reduces airborne allergens such as dust, making the home environment healthier.

With Warmup, the underfloor heating is operated in zones by separate thermostats. This individualistic control allows for usage tailored to your lifestyle and improves heating efficiency. Lower wastage translates simply into greater cost and energy savings.

For all the benefits, Warmup® underfloor heating is highly affordable, both to install and to run. Prices begin at less than £200 including the heater, programmable thermostat and VAT, while running costs are just 0.6p/m²/hr. There are also no maintenance costs involved.

If you would like to find out more about installing electric underfloor heating in your home, simply call Warmup on 0845 345 2288 or visit www.warmup.co.uk to chat with a live consultant. Our team of highly trained professionals can assist with technical queries and provide a free quote for your project, offering support right through even after installation.

Warmup in New Zealand has recently undertaken a partnership with Asthma & Respiratory Foundation.

The organisation is committed to finding new solutions for people with asthma conditions and have identified underfloor heating as one of the viable options.

Warmup® Underfloor Heating is the foundation’s sole recommendation for the undertile and undercarpet heating category.

Thanks to its radiant heating patterns, underfloor heating reduces the circulation of airborne allergens like dust which could trigger health problems such as asthma.

Learn more about the benefits of electric underfloor heating from the Warmup website.
